Gardens and house at Cliveden, Buckinghamshire. Re-built in 1851 after a fire, the original house was built for the 2nd Duke of Buckingham in 1666. Cliveden, as home of Nancy Astor, the first female MP, was the meeting place of the Cliveden set of the 1920s and 1930s - a group of political intellectuals. Later, during the 1960s, it became the setting for key events of the notorious Profumo Affair, centred around the affair between Secretary of State for War John Profumo and Christine Keeler, the mistress of a Russian spy.
